An alleged car thief suffered only minor injuries after crashing a stolen $400,000 Ferrari Purosangue during a brief police chase through Miami’s Brickell neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

According to authorities, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on December 17 when police identified the stolen luxury SUV being driven through the area. The suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Deshawn Prendergast of the Bronx, attempted to flee, leading officers on a short pursuit through city streets.

The chase ended when the Ferrari collided with a police cruiser and then slammed into a utility pole between 12th and 13th streets. The force of the crash snapped the pole and caused a transformer to blow, temporarily cutting power to 15 nearby customers. Utility crews responded quickly and restored service within a short time.

Despite the severity of the crash and extensive damage to the vehicle and surrounding infrastructure, Prendergast escaped with only a minor cut. He was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

Police said Prendergast now faces multiple charges, including grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding police, leaving the scene of a crash, and reckless driving. Investigators noted that the Ferrari incident was one of two luxury vehicle thefts reported that same evening, with a stolen Rolls-Royce recovered separately in an unrelated case.

Authorities emphasized that while no serious injuries occurred, the crash underscores the dangers posed by high-speed pursuits involving powerful vehicles on city streets. The investigation into both thefts remains ongoing.
