Israeli President Isaac Herzog declared that Israel is “defending the free world” and “protecting Europe” in its fight against jihadist organizations, framing the country’s military campaign as part of a larger global struggle against extremism.

Speaking at Chatham House in London, Herzog emphasized that Israel’s actions extend beyond national security, positioning the country as a frontline state in the fight to safeguard democratic societies.

“This is the truth,” Herzog said, arguing that Israel’s battles against groups like Hamas and other jihadist movements ultimately help shield Europe and the broader free world from terrorism.

His remarks come amid a sharp global rise in antisemitism. Reports from the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency for Israel show a 340% increase in antisemitic incidents worldwide between 2022 and 2024, underscoring the urgency Herzog sees in confronting extremist ideologies.

By connecting Israel’s fight to broader international security and the surge in antisemitism, Herzog sought to rally support from global leaders and strengthen Israel’s narrative as a crucial defender of Western values.
