President Donald Trump issued a strong warning to BRICS member nations, vowing to impose tariffs on any country that aligns with the economic bloc, which he described as “an attack on the dollar.”

Speaking from the White House, Trump reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defending the U.S. dollar’s global dominance, calling it a key pillar of American economic strength.

“I’m very strong on the dollar,” Trump said. “Anybody that wants to deal in dollars, they have an advantage over people that aren’t. Anybody that wants to be in BRICS, that’s fine—but we’re going to put tariffs on your nation. BRICS was an attack on the dollar.”

The BRICS alliance—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, with recent additions including Iran and Saudi Arabia—has pushed to conduct more trade in local currencies, reducing reliance on the U.S. dollar. Trump’s remarks signal a hardline economic stance aimed at deterring countries from undermining American financial influence.

Economists view this as part of Trump’s “America First” monetary doctrine, which emphasizes trade leverage, currency protection, and strategic tariffs as tools of U.S. power.

The move could further strain relations with emerging economies but underscores Washington’s resolve to maintain dollar supremacy in global markets.
