ONTARIO, CANADA – Following a rise in home invasions across the region, York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween has urged residents to comply with intruders rather than resist if confronted.

Speaking at a press conference, Chief MacSween emphasized that while the crimes remain rare, the safety of citizens must come first.

“In the unlikely event that you find yourself a victim of a home invasion, we are urging citizens not to take matters into their own hands,” MacSween said.

The police chief noted that suspects in such crimes are often violent and unpredictable, and confronting them could put victims at greater risk. Instead, residents are encouraged to remain calm, comply, and contact authorities as soon as it is safe to do so.

York Regional Police continue to investigate the recent string of incidents and have increased patrols in affected neighborhoods. Authorities are also urging homeowners to improve security measures such as surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and reinforced locks.
