A massive 4-alarm fire tore through a strip mall in Middle Village, Queens, late Monday, leaving six firefighters injured and seven businesses completely destroyed, according to the FDNY.
The blaze broke out in the early evening and quickly spread through the connected storefronts, sending thick smoke billowing into the air and requiring over 170 firefighters to bring it under control. Emergency crews battled the inferno for hours, facing intense heat and hazardous conditions.
All six injured firefighters were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The affected stores included a laundromat, deli, and several small family-owned shops, devastating local owners.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
