Florida is doubling down on its aggressive immigration enforcement strategy. Governor Ron DeSantis announced the launch of a second state-run detention facility for illegal immigrants, dubbed the “Deportation Depot”, located at the Baker Correctional Institute.

The new facility will work alongside “Alligator Alcatraz”, Florida’s first state-run detention center in Ochopee, to accelerate the deportation process. Together, the two centers can hold more than 1,300 detainees at a time, representing one of the most robust state-level immigration enforcement systems in the country.

Governor DeSantis emphasized that this expansion is designed to protect Floridians by removing individuals who are in the country illegally more efficiently, with operational support and cost reimbursement from the federal government.

The move reflects strong alignment with President Donald Trump’s national immigration priorities, as both state and federal authorities seek to strengthen border security and speed up deportations.
