Dashcam footage from February 9, 2026, captured a dramatic highway incident on Oklahoma’s H.E. Bailey Turnpike in which a speeding SUV collided with a stationary patrol vehicle during an active grass fire response, narrowly missing an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper and a Turnpike Authority worker who were managing traffic near the scene.

The trooper had positioned the patrol unit with emergency lights activated to slow approaching vehicles and create a protective buffer for crews addressing the roadside fire. As traffic was being diverted, the SUV approached at high speed, failed to stop in time, and struck the parked patrol vehicle. Video from the patrol car’s dash camera shows the trooper stepping clear just moments before impact, avoiding what could have been a serious or fatal injury.

Three occupants inside the SUV were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover. No injuries were reported among law enforcement personnel or highway workers, a result officials attribute to the trooper’s situational awareness and established traffic control procedures that placed responders outside the direct path of the oncoming vehicle.
