President Donald Trump delivered a forceful message to America’s agricultural community, unveiling a $12 billion package of tariff-funded aid while sharply criticizing the economic damage farmers suffered under Joe Biden. Speaking to a room packed with producers, Trump called farmers “an indispensable national asset” and “part of the backbone of America,” reminding the country that its food security, global competitiveness, and rural economy rest on the shoulders of the men and women working the land.

Trump contrasted this support with what he described as four years of neglect under the Biden administration. He argued that runaway inflation, soaring input costs, and burdensome restrictions on energy and water crippled the agricultural sector. Under Biden, fertilizer prices skyrocketed, diesel became unaffordable, and regulatory hurdles multiplied—forcing many farmers to scale back operations or take on unsustainable debt. Trump pointed to a 55% rise in farm bankruptcies during Biden’s tenure as a stark reflection of those failed policies.

Now back at the helm, Trump emphasized that the federal government will not abandon American agriculture. The newly announced $12 billion assistance package will be funded directly from tariff revenues—dollars Trump says were secured by restoring strength and credibility to U.S. trade policy. These funds will provide immediate relief to farmers facing lingering export losses and price distortions caused by foreign retaliation.

Much like the aid deployed during his first term, the program will offer direct payments, market facilitation support, and targeted assistance for producers hit hardest by global disruptions. But Trump noted that this time, the assistance is launching from a position of strength: trade channels with China are reopening, American exports are recovering, and tariff revenue remains robust.

For Trump, the message goes beyond financial support. He is positioning this package as a reaffirmation of the social and economic value of American agriculture, arguing that farmers should never again be left vulnerable to the consequences of weak leadership or suffocating regulation.

With planting decisions for 2026 underway, Trump’s new support program aims to restore stability, confidence, and optimism across rural America. The President made clear that as long as he is in office, farmers will have both the backing of Washington and a seat at the table—because, as he put it, “America cannot thrive unless its farmers do.”
