A frightening squad-involved crash was captured on dashcam late Friday afternoon in Mounds View, Minnesota, as Ramsey County sheriff’s deputies responded to an emergency call.
The video, submitted by a follower, shows multiple sheriff’s squads approaching the intersection of Mounds View Boulevard and County Road H just before 4:30 p.m. with emergency lights and sirens activated. According to initial radio dispatches, deputies were responding to assist Mounds View police officers and paramedics who were physically struggling with a patient experiencing an apparent mental health crisis.
Authorities indicated that deputies used an Opticom traffic signal preemption device, which is designed to turn traffic signals red in all directions to allow emergency vehicles to pass safely through intersections. However, video footage appears to show one deputy entering the intersection before the signal cycle had fully completed, leading to a collision with another vehicle.
The impact caused visible damage, but according to EMS radio dispatches, no serious injuries were reported. Emergency personnel were already in the area and were able to quickly assess those involved in the crash.
The incident highlights the risks faced by first responders during high-priority emergency calls, particularly when navigating busy intersections under urgent conditions. Officials have not indicated whether any disciplinary action or further review will follow, though such incidents are typically evaluated to determine whether procedures were properly followed.
No additional details have been released at this time.
