Russia carried out the largest aerial assault on Ukraine since the war began, launching a staggering 805 drones and decoys against the country on Sunday.
The strikes targeted the capital, Kyiv, where explosions rocked the city and smoke was seen rising from the roof of a key government building. Officials confirmed at least two people were killed in the assault, with emergency services working to contain the damage.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, the attack marked the heaviest drone barrage since Russia’s full-scale invasion began. Spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat told the Associated Press that Sunday’s assault was unprecedented in both size and scale.
While Ukrainian defense systems intercepted many of the drones, the massive strike highlighted Russia’s continued reliance on aerial barrages to pressure Ukraine’s defenses and disrupt daily life.
The attack underscores the escalating intensity of the war, as Kyiv braces for further strikes and calls on its allies for stronger air defense support.
