A Volusia County Sheriff’s deputy got an unexpected scare while searching for a suspect when he came face-to-face with a bear in the woods.

Bodycam footage released by the Sheriff’s Office shows the deputy and a K-9 unit moving through a wooded area during the search for an aggravated battery suspect. Suddenly, a bear appeared in front of them, prompting the startled officer to shout, “That’s a bear!”

Neither the bear nor the police dog was harmed during the encounter, and officials confirmed the animal eventually moved away on its own. The suspect search was later resumed without further incident.

The unusual moment quickly gained attention online, highlighting the unpredictable challenges officers sometimes face in the line of duty.
