Louisville officials made a bold statement against illegal street racing by destroying a luxury SUV valued at $100,000. On Wednesday morning, around 11 a.m., Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg joined the city’s police department to oversee the crushing of a dark green 2021 Dodge Hellcat Durango.

The vehicle had been confiscated last year and was found to contain several stolen parts, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD). City leaders said the destruction was intended to serve as a warning to those involved in street racing and car theft.

“This is a clear message—illegal street racing and dangerous driving will not be tolerated in Louisville,” Mayor Greenberg said.

The dramatic move is part of a broader crackdown by city officials to improve road safety and curb illegal racing activities. While some residents applauded the tough stance, others questioned whether destroying the SUV was the best use of resources.
