AMUR OBLAST, RUSSIA — A tragic air disaster struck eastern Russia as an Angara Airlines An-24 passenger plane crashed near Tynda in Amur Oblast, with all 49 people on board feared dead, including several children.

The aircraft reportedly vanished from radar during a failed landing attempt, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation. Hours later, emergency teams discovered the burning wreckage of the twin-prop aircraft on a remote mountain slope near the city.

Local authorities have not confirmed the identities of the victims, but early reports indicate that there were no survivors. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, with weather conditions and mechanical failure both being examined as possible factors.

“This is a devastating loss. Our thoughts are with the families of those who perished,” said a spokesperson for Russia’s aviation authority.

The An-24 is a Soviet-era turboprop commonly used for regional flights across Russia’s vast and often challenging terrain. This crash is among the deadliest aviation disasters in the country in recent years.

The Russian Emergency Ministry and civil aviation investigators are expected to release a preliminary report in the coming days.
