WASHINGTON, D.C. — Economist Stephen Moore has accused the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) of significantly overstating job growth during the Biden administration, claiming the agency inflated employment figures by 1.5 million jobs.
Moore argued that this overcount distorted the public’s understanding of the economy, saying the actual labor market performance was weaker than reported. He also defended President Donald Trump’s decision to fire the BLS statistician responsible, calling it a justified move to restore public trust in economic reporting.
The BLS has not yet responded publicly to Moore’s statements. Economic data revisions are not uncommon, but critics argue such discrepancies raise questions about transparency and the reliability of official statistics.
