As President Donald Trump explores the possibility of brokering peace between Russia and Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has poured cold water on immediate hopes for a direct sit-down with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Putin reiterated that while he is not opposed to the idea of a meeting with Zelensky, key preconditions remain unmet.
“I have been repeatedly saying that I, in general, have nothing against it; this is possible,” Putin stated. “But before that, certain conditions should be created. And unfortunately, we are still far from creating such conditions.”
This comes as President Trump is reportedly planning a high-level diplomatic summit involving all three leaders — a bold move aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, which has raged on since Russia’s 2022 invasion.
