Despite rapid federal debris removal and the distribution of more than $3 billion in Small Business Administration loans to aid recovery, local permitting processes and regulatory hurdles have slowed reconstruction in affected neighborhoods. Zeldin emphasized that Trump’s executive order empowers federal oversight to accelerate rebuilding, enabling construction projects to move forward without waiting for prolonged municipal approvals.

Zeldin plans to hold meetings with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, local officials, and residents to address bottlenecks and ensure that rebuilding proceeds at what he calls “Trump’s speed.” The administration frames these efforts as a demonstration of federal commitment to disaster recovery and a model for cutting through red tape that hampers the restoration of homes and community infrastructure.
