President Donald J. Trump has justified a recent U.S. drone strike on a semi-submersible vessel off the coast of Venezuela, describing it as a targeted action against drug traffickers.

“We attacked a submarine. That was a drug-carrying submarine built specifically for the transportation of massive amounts of drugs — just so you understand. This was not an innocent group of people,” Trump said during a press briefing.

According to U.S. defense officials, the strike took place on October 17, 2025, and targeted a cartel-operated vessel believed to be transporting large quantities of narcotics toward North America. Two individuals aboard the vessel were killed, while two others were captured and are now in U.S. custody.

The operation is being hailed by administration officials as part of an intensified crackdown on international drug networks. President Trump emphasized that the action was “a clear message to cartels” that the U.S. will act decisively against illegal drug operations threatening American communities.

The Venezuelan government has not yet issued an official response to the strike, though analysts warn that such operations could heighten tensions in the region.
