As part of Exercise Cold Response in Norway, U.S. Marines are sharpening their Arctic warfare capabilities by training in extreme winter conditions. One of the key components of this training is the Controlled Sliding Technique, a maneuver designed to help drivers maintain control of their vehicles on icy and snowy terrain.
Marines undergo a week-long training course, where they are taught the fundamentals of the technique before practicing it in progressively more challenging environments. The training involves driving a variety of military vehicles, enhancing both their confidence and readiness to operate in harsh Arctic climates.
This exercise underscores the Marine Corps’ continued commitment to Arctic preparedness and allied interoperability, particularly in light of increasing geopolitical interest in the region.
