"Jackals on the Runway!" IndiGo Pilot Issues Urgent Warning to Control Tower at Dhaka Airport
An IndiGo pilot operating flight 6E 1103 made an unexpected report to air traffic control at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after spotting two jackals crossing near the taxiway, just 30 feet from the aircraft. The professional pilot calmly alerted the tower, leading to a temporary hold while ground personnel were dispatched to clear the area. A vehicle with staff quickly responded to secure the runway perimeter and ensure safe operations.
The incident highlights the unique challenges faced by airports in regions with significant wildlife populations. After the sweep, staff reportedly found only polythene sheets, suggesting the animals had moved on. The flight was able to proceed without further delay thanks to the quick thinking of the flight crew and ground control.
This unusual event serves as a reminder of how aviation professionals must stay vigilant in all conditions to maintain the highest standards of safety. IndiGo pilots and Dhaka airport staff demonstrated excellent coordination in handling this rare wildlife intrusion.
