Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick shared new insight into the recently finalized U.S.-E.U. trade agreement, calling it a landmark victory for American industries. Speaking on the significance of the deal, Lutnick explained that the European Union agreed to fully open its markets—an unprecedented move driven by U.S. tariff pressure on key sectors.
“The E.U. offered to open their markets completely,” Lutnick said. “They did that because of the tariffs on autos, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors. We were going to take these industries back to America.”
The deal is being praised as a bold step toward revitalizing domestic manufacturing and securing America’s economic independence. By leveraging strategic tariffs, the United States has pushed the E.U. to lower trade barriers, giving American companies broader access to European markets while encouraging the reshoring of high-value industries.
