The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement following reports of a strike near Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, addressing growing international concern over civilian safety.
“I would like to be clear from the start—the IDF does not intentionally target civilians. Hamas began this war and created impossible conditions,” an IDF spokesperson said.
The statement comes amid ongoing clashes in Gaza, where hospitals and civilian areas have repeatedly been caught in the crossfire. While the IDF maintains that its operations are aimed at Hamas militants, Palestinian officials and humanitarian organizations continue to warn of mounting civilian casualties and deteriorating conditions inside medical facilities.
Nasser Hospital, one of the largest in southern Gaza, has been overwhelmed by the influx of wounded amid shortages of medical supplies, electricity, and staff. The latest strike has drawn sharp criticism from rights groups, who argue that hospitals must remain protected zones under international law.
The IDF has insisted that Hamas uses civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, as shields—an allegation Hamas denies. International observers continue to call for independent investigations into strikes near sensitive sites.
