Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano, has erupted once more, sending glowing lava flows and ash plumes into the sky over Sicily, Italy.
The eruption lit up the night skies with fiery displays, while ash drifted across nearby towns. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, though no immediate reports of injuries or major damage have been confirmed.
Mount Etna has a long history of frequent eruptions. Earlier this year, in June 2025, the volcano produced a major outburst, sending ash plumes as high as 6,400 meters (21,000 feet). That event was so powerful it was captured from space by the European Space Agency’s Sentinel-2 mission.
As one of the most closely studied volcanoes in the world, Etna remains both a source of scientific research and a natural spectacle, drawing global attention each time it rumbles to life.
