Chinese President Xi Jinping cautioned world leaders against reviving a “Cold War mentality” as he addressed members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and guest nations at the summit in Tianjin.

Xi said the world has entered “a new period of turbulence,” urging countries to avoid bloc confrontation and instead strengthen cooperation through dialogue and mutual respect.

The remarks come as China positions itself as a counterweight to Western influence, particularly alongside Russia and other SCO members. Analysts note that Xi’s comments reflect Beijing’s push for a multipolar world order, one less dominated by the United States and its allies.
