Former FBI Director James Comey may have celebrated too early after an activist federal judge dismissed his September 2025 indictment last week. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the legal fight is far from over. In a new interview with The Epoch Times, Patel made clear that Comey should not mistake the ruling for absolution, signaling that significant action is imminent.

Comey was originally indicted for the unauthorized disclosure of classified information during his tenure at the FBI—charges tied to internal memos and sensitive communications he allegedly mishandled. However, on November 24, a federal judge dismissed the case without prejudice, arguing that prosecutor Lindsey Halligan’s appointment had violated federal requirements. The ruling halted the case for now, but did not prohibit future charges.

Patel emphasized exactly that point. “We have numerous options. We're executing on all those options. So we're not done,” he said, adding that Americans should expect developments immediately after Thanksgiving. He hinted openly at multiple avenues to revive the prosecution, including refiled charges under a properly appointed special counsel or the pursuit of related violations uncovered during the original inquiry.

In the interview clip, Patel projected calm confidence, insisting Comey’s legal troubles are far from finished: “I would say stay tuned… and you’ll see multiple responses.” His comments signal that the FBI, under new leadership, intends to pursue accountability whether or not the judiciary throws up procedural roadblocks.

The fallout illustrates the sharp divide between legacy intelligence officials and an increasingly assertive reform-minded FBI leadership. For supporters of accountability in federal law enforcement, Patel’s assurances indicate that the Comey case is paused—not closed. For Comey, the post-dismissal celebration may end up being a very short one.
