Newly released bodycam footage reveals the tense moments police confronted and fatally shot a gunman outside a Reno casino last month.
The Reno Police Department released the video Tuesday, showing officers arriving at the Grand Sierra Resort on July 28, where 26-year-old Dakota Hawver had already killed three people and wounded three others.
As officers pulled into the parking lot, Hawver opened fire, striking a police cruiser. “Put the gun down!” one officer can be heard shouting before returning fire. Shell casings fly as officers engage in a fierce gun battle, with Hawver briefly taking cover behind a semi-truck before being neutralized.
Authorities say the swift police response likely prevented further loss of life. The incident remains under investigation.
