WASHINGTON — Vice President JD Vance took aim at both the press and anti-Trump protesters during remarks at Union Station, delivering sharp criticism of Washington, D.C.’s crime rates.

“Obviously, D.C. has a terrible crime problem. The Department of Justice statistics back it up,” Vance said, pointing to data showing high levels of violent crime in the capital.

He went on to add:

“Let’s free Washington, D.C. from one of the highest murder rates in the entire world.”

The vice president’s comments drew cheers from supporters while sparking backlash from protesters who accused the administration of overstating the city’s crime challenges.

Vance’s remarks reflect the Trump administration’s broader law-and-order agenda, which has put crime reduction at the center of its second-term priorities.
