WASHINGTON — Vice President JD Vance sharply criticized conditions in the nation’s capital, saying no American should feel unsafe walking with their family at night in Washington, D.C.

“It actually should make every American ashamed that our national capital was unsafe for families to walk around at night. That is a disgrace,” Vance said.

He credited President Trump’s leadership for pushing efforts to restore order in the city, adding:

“We don’t think that it’s acceptable — and thank God we have the presidential leadership to change it.”

The remarks underscore the Trump administration’s ongoing focus on law and order and crime reduction, framing public safety in Washington as symbolic of the administration’s broader push to make American cities safer.
