A Russian airstrike on the village of Yarova in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region killed at least 24 civilians and injured 19 others on Tuesday, according to Ukrainian officials.

President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack as “brutally savage,” saying the strike hit a crowd of people waiting in line to collect their monthly pensions around 11 a.m. local time.

“A brutally savage Russian airstrike with an aerial bomb on the rural settlement of Yarova in the Donetsk region. Directly on people. Ordinary civilians. At the very moment when pensions were being disbursed,” Zelensky wrote on X.

Ukraine’s Emergency Service confirmed that the victims were gathered outdoors when the glide bomb struck, leaving widespread devastation. The incident adds to growing concerns over the civilian toll of Russia’s attacks, which Kyiv says deliberately target vulnerable populations.

The strike is among the deadliest in recent weeks, further intensifying calls for increased international support to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses.
