According to internal documents obtained by The New York Times, Amazon’s automation division has ambitious plans — projecting that its expanding robot workforce could eventually replace the need for around 600,000 U.S. employees.

But before the bots start asking for vacation days, analysts note that such a massive shift will likely take years, if not decades. The e-commerce giant continues to rely heavily on its human staff to keep its warehouses humming — and to fix the robots when they inevitably get stuck in the aisle.

Amazon says its automation efforts are meant to improve safety and efficiency, not eliminate jobs. Still, the leaked report paints a picture of a future where algorithms and arms of steel could handle much of what humans do today.

So while the machines might be coming for the workforce… it seems they’re still updating their software first.
Looks like it’s going to take some time.
