The United Kingdom has issued a strong warning to Russia following the detection of multiple submarines operating near critical undersea infrastructure in the North Atlantic. Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed that three Russian submarines, including an Akula-class attack submarine and two specialized GUGI intelligence vessels, were tracked for over a month in waters north of the UK. The activity raised immediate concerns over the security of vital communication cables and energy pipelines. British officials emphasized that such movements are closely monitored due to their potential strategic implications.

In response, UK forces, supported by Norwegian allies, launched a sustained surveillance operation to track the submarines’ movements around the clock. The operation involved a Royal Navy warship, RAF aircraft, and approximately 500 personnel working in coordination to ensure full situational awareness. The submarines were monitored continuously within the UK’s exclusive economic zone, demonstrating the scale and seriousness of the response. Ultimately, the Russian vessels withdrew from the area without any reported damage to infrastructure.

Addressing the situation directly, Healey delivered a pointed message to Vladimir Putin, warning that any attempt to interfere with undersea assets would not be tolerated. He stressed that the UK and its allies possess both the capability and the resolve to respond decisively to any hostile actions.
