Washington, D.C. — White House Office of Management and Budget (WHOMB) Director Russ Vought expressed concern on Tuesday over what he described as Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s delayed responses to critical economic developments. Speaking in an interview, Vought stated, “We believe on a host of fronts, Chairman Powell has been too late.”
Vought emphasized that President Trump is right to voice concerns on behalf of the American people, noting, “The President is doing what the President should do, which is get out there and articulate those views.”
He added that while the administration has shown restraint and respect for the Fed’s independence, it is still essential to hold the institution accountable. “The patience President Trump has demonstrated towards Chairman Powell is, in fact, a defense of that independence … but we also have to articulate the views of the American people,” Vought concluded.
The comments come amid growing pressure on the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates, a key issue impacting housing affordability, inflation, and economic growth.
