WASHINGTON, D.C. — White House Office of Management and Budget (WHOMB) Director Russ Vought spoke candidly about the Trump administration's fiscal priorities, underscoring a firm commitment to meaningful deficit reduction.

In a recent interview, Vought pushed back on what he described as a flawed approach by congressional appropriators:

“Appropriators want a scenario where we propose cuts and they use that in their bills to then pay down for higher levels of spending,” Vought said. “We’re $37 trillion in debt. We actually have to have a dollar of cut go to a dollar of deficit reduction.”

Vought went on to highlight the early impact of the Trump administration’s economic strategy:

“The moves that we are making as an economic team under President Trump’s leadership will lead to about a third of what’s necessary to balance the budget … That’s just in our [first] six months.”

The remarks reflect the administration’s broader goal of achieving long-term fiscal sustainability while curbing what it views as runaway federal spending.
