Retired General Jack Keane, senior strategic analyst for Fox News, weighed in on the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine war, describing the situation as “very frustrating” for former President Donald Trump, who has openly supported the idea of a ceasefire.

Speaking on Fox & Friends, Keane explained that Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries have been highly effective, reducing Moscow’s capability by 17 to 20 percent. “Oil is a legitimate target—armies run on it,” Keane said, drawing a parallel to World War II, when Russia’s logistics vulnerabilities were exploited to halt advances.

Keane argued that while Ukraine has already signaled willingness for an unconditional ceasefire—with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreeing to one five months ago—the only obstacle remains Russian President Vladimir Putin. “The Ukrainian people overwhelmingly want it. Only one man blocks it—Putin, a thug and a killer,” Keane stated.

According to Keane, Putin sees war as leverage to extract concessions from both Ukraine and the West, making him unwilling to accept a ceasefire that could weaken his negotiating position. Meanwhile, the U.S. continues to back Ukraine’s strategy of targeting Russian logistics, with the hope of undermining Moscow’s military sustainability over time.

The comments come as Russia launches new deadly strikes across Ukraine, further complicating ongoing negotiations and highlighting the widening gap between Ukrainian resilience, Western diplomacy, and Putin’s refusal to de-escalate.
