An Army football player is being praised as a hero after rescuing a man from a burning vehicle in Orange County, New York.

Video footage captured Larry Pickett Jr., a cadet and player for the Army football team, pulling the driver to safety just moments before the car was engulfed in flames on Route 9W early Sunday morning near Fort Montgomery.

Witnesses say Pickett rushed to the scene without hesitation, helping lift the injured man out of the vehicle as smoke and fire spread rapidly. The dramatic rescue unfolded only seconds before the car was completely consumed by flames.

Community members and officials have commended Pickett for his quick action and bravery. “Well done Larry & all those involved,” one supporter noted, adding hope that everyone involved in the accident recovers quickly.

The driver’s condition has not yet been publicly disclosed.
