At least three people were killed and more than 100 injured after a passenger train derailed in Egypt on Saturday, authorities confirmed.

The train, which was traveling from the northern coastal city of Marsa Matruh to Cairo, went off the tracks when seven of its carriages derailed, with two overturning. Initial reports from authorities listed 94 injuries, but Egypt’s health ministry later updated the figure to 103.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, transporting the wounded to nearby hospitals for treatment. Footage from the crash site showed overturned carriages and rescue teams working through the wreckage.

Egypt has a long history of deadly train accidents, often linked to aging infrastructure and maintenance challenges. The government has pledged continued investment in rail safety, but Saturday’s derailment highlights the persistent risks facing passengers.
