Australian police arrested a 39-year-old man after he crashed his SUV into the gates of the Russian consulate in Sydney early Monday morning.

The incident occurred in the Woollahra suburb, where the consulate is located. Authorities confirmed that a police officer was injured during the event, though the extent of the injuries has not been publicly disclosed.

Aerial footage captured by a news helicopter showed the damaged vehicle on the consulate’s lawn, positioned near a Russian flagpole. Police vehicles and media crews quickly surrounded the scene as investigators moved in.

The motive behind the crash has not yet been determined. Police say the man is in custody and is expected to face charges.

The Russian consulate and Australian authorities have not released further details as the investigation continues.
