Syria’s interim president, Ahmad al-Sharaa, has confirmed that negotiations with Israel for a potential security deal are ongoing.
When asked if an agreement could be finalized before his expected visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly later this month, al-Sharaa said discussions remain in progress.
He expressed hope that once a deal is reached, Israeli forces will withdraw to the positions they held prior to the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, signaling that territorial and security arrangements remain central to the talks.
The comments come at a pivotal moment for the region, with both sides weighing the possibility of reshaping relations amid shifting political dynamics in the Middle East. While no official details of the proposed deal have been released, the negotiations mark a significant step given the decades of hostility between Syria and Israel.
