Drone footage has captured dramatic scenes as emergency services rushed to contain a massive warehouse fire following an explosion in Swindon, Wiltshire.
The blaze broke out around 7:30 p.m. at the Groundwell Industrial Estate on Crompton Road. Police, ambulance crews, and firefighters quickly arrived at the site, with nearby buildings evacuated as a precaution. Residents living close to the estate were advised to remain indoors and keep their windows shut due to the heavy smoke.
Despite the scale of the incident, emergency services confirmed that no injuries were reported. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) stated that firefighters worked through the night to bring the blaze under control, with three crews still on-site the following morning to tackle hotspots.
Witnesses described the explosion as powerful enough to shake homes. Many locals took to social media to share their experiences, while dashcam footage from passing motorists captured the dramatic moment of the blast.
Jim Wall, a branch director at Jackson Fire & Security, recalled hearing the explosion while putting his twins to bed.
“I didn’t think much of it until I saw messages on WhatsApp about a fire. We were all worried,” he said.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is under way to determine the cause of the explosion.
