New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani sparked controversy during a recent interview after refusing to say whether Hamas should lay down its weapons. The exchange occurred during an appearance on The Story with Martha MacCallum, where the Fox News host pressed the candidate for a clear stance on the militant group.

When asked directly, “Should Hamas give up their weapons?” Mamdani responded, “I believe that a future here in New York City is affordable for all,” steering the discussion toward his campaign’s domestic priorities.

MacCallum followed up, asking again, “You won’t say that Hamas should lay down their arms?” Mamdani replied, “I don’t have any opinions on the future of Hamas.”

The remarks quickly drew sharp criticism online, with many accusing Mamdani of dodging a moral question about terrorism. Supporters, however, defended his focus on local issues, arguing that the question was politically charged and unrelated to city governance.

The incident has reignited debate over how U.S. politicians—especially at the local level—should address international conflicts while campaigning on domestic platforms.
