Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said there would be no immediate announcement regarding missiles following his meeting with U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House, citing Washington’s desire to avoid further escalation with Russia.
“There will be no announcement on missiles, because the United States doesn’t want escalation,” Zelensky told reporters during a press conference after his talks with Trump.
The Ukrainian leader’s statement comes amid ongoing discussions about potential U.S. defense assistance and the supply of advanced weaponry to Kyiv. While both nations reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, the White House appears focused on balancing military support with diplomatic caution.
Analysts say the decision reflects Trump’s broader strategy of “peace through strength,” seeking to pressure Moscow through deterrence and negotiation rather than open confrontation.
Zelensky described the meeting as constructive, emphasizing ongoing cooperation on security, humanitarian aid, and rebuilding efforts.
