Authorities in Michigan have released dramatic dashcam footage showing the moments after a man allegedly stole an ambulance in Novi with both a paramedic and a patient still inside, leading police on a dangerous chase before a fiery crash.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Changlin Li, was arraigned on October 27 in Oakland County and faces a long list of felony charges following the brazen theft. According to police, the incident began when Li took a MedStar ambulance from the scene of a crash while emergency responders were actively tending to a patient.

Inside the ambulance at the time were both a paramedic and the injured patient. Li sped off, driving several miles before colliding with another vehicle in Northville Township. The impact caused the ambulance to burst into flames, though both the paramedic and patient managed to escape before the fire fully engulfed the vehicle.

Police later released dashcam video of the chaotic pursuit, showing flashing lights, blaring sirens, and the moment officers closed in on the stolen emergency vehicle. Li was taken into custody after a tense confrontation and was charged with multiple felonies, including carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon, second-degree fleeing and eluding, and two counts of assaulting or resisting a police officer. He also faces a charge of disarming a peace officer.

A judge set Li’s bond at $5 million, underscoring the gravity of the case. Authorities praised the quick response of law enforcement and paramedics who acted swiftly to prevent further harm.

The shocking incident has drawn attention across Michigan, raising concerns about the growing number of brazen crimes targeting first responders and public safety personnel.
