Vice President JD Vance reaffirmed confidence in President Trump’s Middle East peace framework after reports surfaced of a Hamas-led attack on an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldier, a move seen as a direct violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters, Vance said, “The ceasefire is holding. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t going to be little skirmishes. We know that Hamas or somebody else within Gaza attacked an IDF soldier. We expect the Israelis are going to respond—but I think the President’s peace is going to hold.”
The remarks come amid renewed tensions in the region as Israel continues to enforce strict border security following months of intermittent rocket fire and provocations from militant factions inside Gaza. Despite the flare-up, the Trump Administration maintains that the broader peace deal remains intact and that isolated attacks will not derail long-term stability.
White House officials echoed Vance’s message, emphasizing that Israel retains the right to defend itself under international law. “The President stands firmly with Israel and its right to protect its citizens,” one senior aide said. “These isolated incidents do not define the success of the ceasefire—they test its resilience.”
Analysts note that while brief exchanges of fire are not uncommon in such fragile truces, the Administration’s calm but firm response underscores its determination to sustain peace in the region while deterring future aggression from Hamas or other extremist groups.
Israel’s defense ministry has yet to release further details about the soldier’s condition, but military officials confirm readiness to respond “proportionally and strategically” if further attacks occur. As the situation remains fluid, the Trump Administration continues to monitor developments closely, working alongside regional partners to preserve the stability established through months of diplomacy and deterrence.
