A federal immigration officer from Miami was arrested after a shocking incident in the Florida Keys that has raised both legal and ethical questions about conduct within U.S. law enforcement ranks.
Authorities identified the suspect as Scott Thomas Deiseroth, 42, who told police he worked for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to reports, Deiseroth was pulled over after multiple motorists reported his erratic driving with children inside his vehicle. Officers described his behavior as reckless and dangerous.
When confronted by police, Deiseroth appeared intoxicated and became argumentative. During the arrest, he repeatedly questioned the nationality of the Black police officer who stopped him, an exchange captured on bodycam video now circulating online. Even after being placed in the back of the patrol car, Deiseroth continued his inappropriate questioning while officers completed the arrest procedure.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Deiseroth faces charges related to driving under the influence and reckless endangerment, with possible child endangerment enhancements due to the presence of minors in the car. ICE officials have not yet released a statement on his employment status or whether disciplinary action has been taken.
The incident has drawn public criticism over the behavior of a federal officer sworn to uphold the law, with many calling for his suspension pending a full investigation.
