WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump confirmed Sunday that Steve Witkoff, a prominent real estate executive and special envoy, may be dispatched to Russia in the coming days.

“They would like to see him,” Trump told reporters, hinting at a possible visit by Witkoff as early as Wednesday or Thursday, ahead of an unspecified new deadline.

The president did not elaborate on the purpose of the visit but framed it as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts, suggesting that Witkoff’s trip may carry strategic or economic significance.

Witkoff, known for his close ties to Trump and past international business dealings, has increasingly appeared in diplomatic contexts over the past year, including involvement in humanitarian discussions related to the Middle East.

The planned visit comes amid heightened U.S.–Russia tensions and just days after Trump announced the repositioning of U.S. nuclear submarines in response to recent Kremlin rhetoric.
