President Donald J. Trump has signed a proclamation commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act, pledging to strengthen and defend the program for current and future generations.
In his remarks, Trump celebrated the Act as a “monumental legislative achievement” that has safeguarded seniors for nearly a century. He touted recent reforms under his administration, including the largest tax break for seniors in U.S. history, ensuring that most Social Security recipients pay no federal tax on their benefits.
Trump also highlighted efforts to root out fraud, waste, and abuse — including halting payments to deceased individuals and removing benefits from those who do not legally qualify. He emphasized that Medicare and Social Security should be preserved for American citizens who contributed to the programs, not “abused by illegal aliens.”
The proclamation reaffirmed his administration’s focus on reducing wait times, improving efficiency, and ensuring that seniors receive the benefits they’ve earned.
“On this momentous milestone,” Trump stated, “we recommit to strengthening our retirement system… and ensuring that every future generation of American citizens has the income security they need and earned.”
