Air travel across Poland faced major disruption early Wednesday after Russian drones entered Polish airspace, prompting authorities to temporarily shut down Warsaw Chopin Airport and cancel multiple flights.

According to Flightradar24, live air traffic data showed planes diverting or grounded as the incursion unfolded. The drones crossed into Poland during a widespread Russian attack on western Ukraine, forcing swift defensive measures.

Polish forces shot down the drones and later confirmed that the situation was under control. However, officials described the incident as an “act of aggression” and underscored the seriousness of Russian operations spilling into NATO territory.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he remains in close contact with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and has called an emergency meeting of the council of ministers to assess the security implications.

The episode marks one of the most direct threats to Poland’s sovereignty since the war in Ukraine began, raising concerns about further escalation.
