A New York photographer captured what he called the “wildest thing” he has ever seen while flying his drone over the waters off Montauk.
Michael Cuomo, a local photographer, initially thought the commotion near the shoreline might have been dolphins or tuna. But once he sent his drone out over the waves, he was stunned to discover hundreds of spinner sharks splashing and thrashing together in the surf.
The rare footage highlights the abundance of marine life along the Montauk coast, an area well known for seasonal migrations of sharks, dolphins, and other ocean wildlife. Cuomo described the sight as both thrilling and surreal, noting that he had never witnessed so many sharks in one place.
Marine experts say spinner sharks are known for leaping and spinning out of the water while hunting schools of fish, often creating dramatic scenes when spotted in large groups.
The video has quickly spread online, drawing fascination and awe from viewers impressed by the raw power of nature just offshore.
