Authorities have identified the suspect behind a deadly attack on a Latter-day Saints church in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford.

Police say Sanford rammed his Chevy Silverado into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before opening fire on congregants with a semi-automatic rifle. He then set the building ablaze in the chaos.

At least two people were killed and nine others injured as families scrambled to escape the assault. Witnesses described scenes of terror as Sanford targeted fleeing worshippers.

The Post confirmed Sanford’s identity through his mother’s social media, which noted he was a U.S. Marine veteran.

Investigators are now piecing together Sanford’s motives while emergency services continue to support survivors and assess the extent of the damage to the church. Officials have condemned the attack as a shocking act of violence against a place of worship.
