Nine sheep and a shepherd dog died Tuesday after a flock drank from a water trough that had been poisoned in grazing fields near Alon Road in the Binyamin region.

More than 40 additional sheep were affected, with local residents rushing veterinary medications to the scene in an effort to save the animals. Shortly after drinking from the trough, dozens of sheep began suffering severe symptoms.

The shepherd dog accompanying the flock also drank from the contaminated water and died after developing severe symptoms.

According to residents of the area, individuals approaching from the direction of the nearby village of al-Mughayyir entered the grazing area and poured a toxic substance into the trough.

Security forces were called to the scene and launched searches for suspects.

Residents said the latest incident follows a series of similar poisonings targeting livestock in grazing areas along Alon Road over the past year. Previous incidents have involved poison being placed in water sources or concealed in food scattered in grazing areas.

Tuesday's incident was particularly severe because of the number of animals affected at once. Efforts continued at the scene to treat the surviving sheep.
