Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces say they shot down at least seven Houthi drones across several fronts on October 10, with reports coming from Marib, Midi in Hajjah, Taiz and the western coast. The claims come as fighting has sharply intensified in recent days, with government troops pushing toward the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, one of the world's busiest shipping chokepoints. The Saudi-led coalition also says it destroyed more than 130 Houthi targets in a single operation. All of these figures come from the government and coalition side and have not been independently verified.
The Houthis have kept up their own attacks, launching drones and missiles toward Saudi airports and bases as the war reignites on multiple fronts. The group declared a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia in July and has carried out attacks on Saudi shipping in the Bab al-Mandeb, which is why control of the Red Sea coast has become so important. Marib, Taiz and the western coast have all seen repeated drone and missile strikes in recent weeks, with civilians caught in the middle and more than 100,000 already displaced. With neither side showing signs of backing down, the risk of a wider regional fallout, including threats to Red Sea shipping, keeps growing.
